Hi Lindsay,

Good for you, and thanks for the compliment. Domain Name Insanity is one of my favorite posts because it captures my true voice -- sarcastic and thought provoking at the same time, which is probably why I have no friends.

Anyway, instead of pointing all of those domain names to the same site, why don't you put up several smaller, content-rich sites ("micro-sites") that highlight some aspect of your web business and then connect them all together?

You could try to redirect some of the domains to other domains, but rumor has it that Google's latest update (named BigDaddy) is adept at finding these sorts of things and penalizing you for them.

I just loved this article you wrote. In fact it inspired me so much, I rushed out and bought 20 new domain names all with terms pertaining to my web business. I would like to link or redirect them to my website but how many can you point towards your site before Google decides it's spam? Many thanks and again, I find your articles extremely informative.

I got this comment via email:

I read your article on domain names. One other aspect you didn't mention, we label all of our products before they are shipped to the customer. When the customers affiliates, customers, peers, etc. see our domain name on our products it is easy for them to remember how to get to our site, our domain name also implies that they can purchase our product (traditionally in the past they had to rent them), and they probably tried our product to test it for quality.

Then they walked back to their business and/or home and found it easy to find us, all because of our memorable name. Brion Petts Owner of buywatercoolers.com.

________

I post it here because Brion points out the convergence between the online/offline world, something a lot of us don't consider. I'm sure everyone has somewhere offline where they can drive people online. I'm on it, though. I'm putting together a post on it.
